While this was originally intended to be an unremarkable and carefully staged evolution with every step carefully tested and retested to ensure no service downtime; the current box that hosts Kanga.Nu, in seeming jealousy of the gleaming new AlphaStation sitting right beside it, has suddenly become erraticly unstable (initial inconclusive indicators are a bad SIMM and/or a dieing SCSI drive). I don't have the time right now to fully debug and re-stabilise the current Kanga.Nu host which has served us so well. Even if I did, it would not be an effective use of my time. Instead I'll be moving everything over to the new box more rapidly than initially planned. Quite possibly this means that the entire transition will happen this week. Certainly it means that there will be periods when all of the normal Kanga.Nu services will not all be available. I'll attempt to keep these later as short as possible. Kanga.Nu has multiple backup mail servers ("secondary MX'es" in DNS parlance). I have verified that they are online and are appropriately configured. It is possible that mail to Kanga.Nu will generate bounce messages during the transition due to the mail not being able to be rapidly delivered to Kanga.Nu. Do not worry about these bounces -- they are merely warnings that the mail could not be delivered in a timely manner, not indications that the mail was lost. It is extremely that unlikely that mail will be lost (I can't guarantee). I will post further updates/warnings here as they pertain. - -- J C Lawrence Internet: claw#kanga,nu (Contractor) Internet: coder#kanga,nu - ---------(*) Internet: claw#under,engr.sgi.com ...Honorary Member of Clan McFud -- Teamer's Avenging Monolith... ------- End of Blind-Carbon-Copy

Prev by Date: [MUD-Dev] Error tolerant UDP data streams

Next by Date: [MUD-Dev] Re: Netscape's "Gecko" Browsing Engine (fwd)

Prev by thread: [MUD-Dev] MUD Design doc (long)

Next by thread: [MUD-Dev] Error tolerant UDP data streams

Index(es):

Date

Thread

Thread context:

[MUD-Dev] Re: MUD Design doc (long), (continued)

[MUD-Dev] Re: MUD Design doc (long), J C Lawrence claw#under,engr.sgi.com, Mon 21 Dec 1998, 23:34 GMT

[MUD-Dev] Re: MUD Design doc (long), Nathan F Yospe yospe#hawaii, edu, Wed 23 Dec 1998, 20:11 GMT

[MUD-Dev] A short introduction of a (quite) long-time lurker, Per Vognsen vognsen#post10,tele.dk, Fri 11 Dec 1998, 16:39 GMT
[MUD-Dev] MUD Design doc (long), Thinus Barnard thinus_barnard#bigfoot,com, Fri 11 Dec 1998, 09:29 GMT
[MUD-Dev] ADMIN: (IMPORTNANT) Server down time and possible service interruption, J C Lawrence claw#under,engr.sgi.com, Tue 08 Dec 1998, 01:56 GMT
[MUD-Dev] Error tolerant UDP data streams, J C Lawrence claw#under,engr.sgi.com, Tue 08 Dec 1998, 01:40 GMT

[MUD-Dev] Re: [DevMUD] Error tolerant UDP data streams, Darren Henderson darren#jasper,somtel.com, Tue 08 Dec 1998, 02:37 GMT

[MUD-Dev] Re: Error tolerant UDP data streams, James Wilson jwilson#rochester,rr.com, Tue 08 Dec 1998, 12:31 GMT

[MUD-Dev] Re: Error tolerant UDP data streams, J C Lawrence claw#under,engr.sgi.com, Wed 09 Dec 1998, 07:14 GMT

[ Other Periods | Other mailing lists | Search ]
