So I've been bouncing back and forth of creating my own side mud project, without throwing out the past 9 years of work. Due to a server crash we had about 6 months ago, our players have dwindled down to nearly nothing, the staff have vanished, and I'm honestly left alone to babysit and use cpr to keep it afloat. I love the mud, and love the work we've put into, and have been thinking of doing something on my own power.
I am wondering what kind of things people would want to see in a mud, that you don't really see anymore; since some people are moving away from muds.

Some ideas I have atm are:
To use the Smaug base, Fear2.x, since I know how to build and use progs, but don't have the time to fill out descriptions :p, and it used a map for walking around. My improvements on that end of the scope would be to make look, actually show the description if it's available, and the map for movements.

A few themes would be either a Full metal alchemist, or a D&D 3rd edition mud.

Anyways, if anyone wants to throw in some input, or jump on board and help move it from a concept to an actual mud, lemme know.

To be honest I'd rather see something different than the usual mud theme/settings. After 25 years it gets a little old you know? There was an interesting thread at Mudlab with a collection of themes, most of which I've never seen in muds. Do one of those ;).

Awesome, I'll check that site out. I didn't know it existed. I just want to try to bring something new to the community and help keep it alive I would say. The theme suggestion was just something that I haven't seen yet. I would really love to incorporate a custom client, if anyone has any suggestions on what type of programming is needed to start one of those, or one that is open for gnu I'd love to start learning that as well.

Hey, Lancsta…

If you got an itch…I got this cream that'll clear that right up.

*runs away*

Lol thanks, I might need it. I'm just a little burnt out atm working on my own. So I figured if I'm working on my own, I might as well have my own project, or join up for a while on a team. I try to help others on my spare time, to get out of the doldrums.

You know, I also was thinking the other day, since I bought it from the store, was a Left 4 dead type mud. I was totally stoked on the idea seeing as it's never been done before, and looking through my box of notes and what not I had alot of similiar design concepts for that type of game play. I don't know if any of you remember, *and I can't think of the name* There was a pk mud, where you would log in, and it was completely automatic, I don't recall ever seeing an immortal. Rounds would begin, and you were transfered into another area for battle, wandering around and finding other players or npcs? You could also wander in between rounds and look for eq and what not. I think that would be a good engine for something like this.
