Years ago, game.org had a full copy of medievia source code on its webpage.

IT has since came down, however, there are those of us whom are wondering if someone out there still has this copy available , and if so, would it be possible to get it back into the community.

Reason being, it will put an end to the debate of if Medievia is diku derived or no.

Which we all know that it is, but hey, some people need convincing.

If you got it, or no somebody who does, toss it out to the community!

It's already here on MudBytes, Darien… Here's a link to it under » Root » DikuMUD » Merc.

HA HA :P

We know what it was derived from, I am looking for the actual code behind it. the stuff that is claimed to be 'not diku derived' but was proven so on game.org.

i used to have it myself, but lost it ages ago.

I knew what you meant. By the way, this post isn't about pie… And thus, it's pointless.

It won't put an end to the debate, because they claim they totally redid the code. I think it is here though, it was archived. If it's not, I'm sure I have it somewhere.

I thought that the debate was pretty much decided in court…

medievia's never been to court over the issue from anything i've read.

they however did change their methods of paying. But its still pay-to-play.

I used to have a copy of it, and if I still do I can't find it right now. Either way, it was proven pretty quickly that the leaked source was in fact Diku/Merc derived and verified as such.

However, before anyone gets the brilliant idea of submitting it for inclusion here, it would be rejected. Not because Vryce violated the license, but because his additions to the code were not authorized for distribution to the public.

i'm not looking for someone to submit it, i'm looking for someone to email it to me.

and potentialy anyone else who wants it.

Yeah. They seem to bring it back every once in awhile. Guess they decided to do so again, because I checked there when I went looking for it the last time. There's not a great deal of point in downloading it other than to go through it to make comparisons. I certainly wouldn't advise anyone use the thing as their MUD codebase :)

You mean i should revert back to using rom instead of the medthievia codebase…. Darn… :P

Old post I know. I was actually thinking about doing just that. Then I'd go rename all of the functions and structures and variables that Vryce wrote and then tell him too bad, I rewrote it from scratch. lol

run it through an obfuscator

That's an even better idea! :D

I could see it now.

"You, sir, don't have permission to use that code!"
"What are you talking about? I rewrote it all from scratch!"
"You're breaking the law and using my code without permission!"
"Didn't you just steal the code you're trying to say I am stealing anyways?"
"No, we rewrote it from scratch."
"As did I sir, as did I."

EDIT: Yes, I'm aware he didn't actually "steal" the code.

indeed, he just profited from it…..

The distinction is hardly of any value. The end result is the same. He's broken the license and is profiting illegally from the code.

Well, I was thinking someone would come with a literal sense to what I was talking about. In my eyes he did steal the code.. Claiming someone else's code as his own and even then making profit from it is in my eyes, stealing.. However, I'm used to the WoW forums as of late and as such I'm used to trolls coming on to counter everything you say.. Why I tossed in that bit about stealing code.. lmao

Yes, but in the real world ( IE - not the WoW forums ) we consider such maneuvers as flame-baiting :P

While we're on the subject of code, you're anti-spam module for your MUD will prevent anyone from playing when they roll their stats after creating a new character.

You say 'reroll'
You may roll as often as you like.
