hey guys, this isn't mud-related, but a small advertisement for a simple site I've been working on (cross-posted from TMS). It's called IF URLs.

Some of you may be familiar with IF, but if not, interactive fiction sometimes is described as a single-player mud, but with more of a focus on puzzles and/or story than RPG-style play. There are many thousands of free games going back 30 years, and a contemporary, very active community for authors and players, with a ton of development tools and interesting coding projects out there in many different languages.

If you don't follow the many IF feeds but are still interested or curious about the interactive fiction scene, this is the site for you. It's also on twitter @ifurls.

Thanks for listening.

You'd think the IF community would use MUDs + OLC to create content nowadays.

And here I thought that was for stories and fan-fic type stuff.

Scandum, that's a good point – there have been a few experiments with OLC, but the major dev systems have roots going back nearly 20 years, and they've pretty much stuck close to the original mould of off-line development. There is an IF 'mud', called Guncho (closer to a MOO probably). I can't remember if it has OLC though.

@Exodus, you're right, interactive fiction as a term gets used for a lot of different stuff, but it's been used for IF specifically for probably the longest, 25 years or so.

Xposting from TMS, I've moved IF URLs from Wordpress to Tumblr:

ifurls.tumblr.com

You have a lot more control of a page's layout at tumblr, though the interface isn't the greatest. But if you're looking for a easy and free web page, it's not bad, and I'm curious about the Twitter-like networkied aspect of it.

I've added a calendar to the site; starting off there are several events next week in Seattle and Boston.

Also I'm starting to cover news from the Russian, German, Italian, Spanish, and French IF communities. Google Translate has been my friend here :D.

As always, follow http://twitter.com/IFURLs for updates, or visit directly at http://ifurls.tumblr.com.

I just posted a 'best of 2010 in IF URLs' – see the major news for interactive fiction in 2010. It's been a pretty awesome year.
