Has anyone tried making help files editable by normal users, or even making the "help" command a tie-in to an actual wiki?

Not exactly? We have a player-editable wiki, wiki.lostsouls.org, but it isn't integrated with the game except for authentication.

We have a "secret link" for web-editing the in-game help files, but it's only handed out to certain people.

We have a tip channel, and ways for regular players to submit general and contextual tips (e. g. ones that are tied to a certain location in the world). There's been a very low volume of contributions from regular players. It seems that the folks who want to help ask to be made immo, and the rest are too busy playing.

That makes sense.

we did it on Legends of Hatred when we ran the place.. Was an SQL Database which had a user interface similar to Erwins note system.. worked well when we had a pbase.

On War of Legend our helpfiles are editable via the website, and the immortals have to approve them before they actually go into the mud.. again this is fine if you have a pbase,
but when you dont… its just as bad as having a mud with next to no helpfiles!
