I downloaded and looked through all of the EmpireMUD's files. I plan on playing around with resources, then building crafts, and stuff. Everything looks pretty straight forward. I guess I'll be learning some C for the most part.

But I was wondering, since Empire is based of of Circle 3.0, should I tinker around with that first? My goal is to build a resource management/trade/political MUD. I like a lot of other codebases but this seems like the best starting point (I guess.)

EmpireMUD is fairly complex. And buggy. Although Circle is buggy too.

Just so you are informed, tbamud is a fixed up version of circle. It is the same code but without all the bugs. I think it has had some other features added in to make building easier but I may be wrong on that. I don't know much about the circle codebase myself so I can't give you any other info. But lots of people use and like the tbamud code.
