Hi,

I have been looking at the Intel guides and the shorter list of general purpose instructions they recommend you use for working with Intel 64 IA-32, There seems to be some somewhat specialized stuff in here that I am not too familiar with. In particular what are the string operations for and how optimal are they?

I am debating whether to do my assm on this architecture over something like ARM but I am wondering what the cost is associated with avoiding instructions that map to specific registers (bc I would like to keep instruction selection simple).

Thanks.
