Well it looks like we have a lot of work ahead of us. So where were we again with this thread.

Never fear, I'm back. And I'll work it out just as soon as I figure out what was going on in the first place. Four more pages of posts to read!

Anyone else not able to get to the Evil Eye website?

Works for me.

I can't get to it from work or my VPS. Never brings anything up on Firefox (keeps loading).

Lynx on my VPS stays at "HTTP request sent; waiting for response."

I don't think it's me.

Doesn't work for me…

I can't load it either. Their ISP also replied to me with:

"Brandon,

We'll address this issue, thank you for letting us know."

So I suspect they hadn't actually gotten the go-ahead of their ISP as they had claimed.

I can't access their site either. It's not a network
problem, because I can access their host IP:

Quote
alpha: / $ telnet 216.118.133.37 6667
Trying 216.118.133.37…
Connected to 216.118.133.37.
Escape character is '^]'.

Welcome to…

- The TMI-2 Mudlib Release, version 1.3 -

This is the welcome screen (/adm/news/welcome) and is displayed to
all users as they first login. It is followed by the username and
password request.

StarWars: New Identities is running the TMI-2 1.4alpha mudlib on FluffOS v2.7-ds2.018

But when I try to use their http port:

Quote
alpha: / $ telnet 216.118.133.37 80
Trying 216.118.133.37…
Connected to 216.118.133.37.
Escape character is '^]'.
GET /index.html HTTP/1.0

Connection closed by foreign host.

So if some people can access it and some can't looks like a
kind of um, misconfig. Of some sort.

That's interesting, it doesn't work for me anymore either. I know I wasn't getting a cache because just earlier was the first time I visited the site. I wonder if they repointed the IP and the propagation just finished for me…

Could have been a outsourced tech support guy who no idea. When was that reply?

Wonder if the ISP blocked port 80 on them.

No. I just received a report that for someone else, port 80
with a manual GET works just fine. So it's an oddly selective misconfig, it seems.

I did note that you shot the dog after business hours in Nova Scotia.
By this morning, the money stuff was gone, so I doubt the investigation
would go much further.

Which is good, because a suspicious person might be wondering if
this selective webserver inaccessibility were some kinda effort
to camouflage their activity. It would be pretty funny if their
ISP were like "Huh, blank page. False report I guess."

Pity I'm in the bunch of folks without access. I wanted to try them out.
I figured maybe my 3rd signup request would be the charm, but now
I'll never know.

I can still access it. They seem to have added a new upload page as well

This form will allow you to upload a file to EvilEye's fileserver. The following rules must be followed when uploading any files:

1. You must have the copyright or permission to use whatever you are uploading.
2. You grant EvilEye a non-exclusive license to distribute the material you uploaded.
3. No uploading of pornographic material, warez, games, pictures or music you do not have
the copyright for, hacking tools/guides to hacking, ect.
4. Anything you upload can be downloaded by anyone that comes across it.

So they can do whatever they want with your code as well as let anyone download it.

They also have a fileserver page now that you can see everyone's directory.

Wow, that's an incredibly terrible thing for anyone looking for hosting.

It sounds like, for all intents and purpose, uploading your MUD to Evil Eye is basically releasing your code to the public with no restrictions.

It's most likely an alternative to using sftp (which they most likely have installed) and ftp. Doubt it's the only way to get files to their servers.

But will they still do whatever they want with your files whether using sftp or ftp? Does this license hold true to your codebase account? It doesn't say anything about that except for what's on the page.
