#600 The pillar walk~ This narrow ramp of pillars rises up out of the sand. At its low end, only the broken tops of the columns can be seen, but as the ramp reaches the top, the columns are taller and more complete. Propped against the six uppermost pillars are six skeletons, wearing ragged bits of clothing, armor and holding various weapons. ~ 6 0 0 0 0 1 D1 ~ ~ 0 -1 601 E pillars skeletons~ The skeletons are held upright by nails driven into the rock. In its center is a stone pool, now dry and clogged with sand. ~ 6 0 0 0 0 1 D1 ~ ~ 0 -1 603 D3 ~ ~ 0 -1 601 E pictures writings~ Some of the pictures show people making offerings of flowers and fruit to a scorpion-man deity sitting in front of a flaming pit; others show the scorpion-man battling fearsome monsters. The writing is in an unknown tongue. ~ E pool~ You clear away some of the sand on the bottom of the pool, and it reveals a series of pictures and writings. ~ S #603 Anteroom~ This large room has small piles of rubble and decayed wood. Lining its far wall are three sarcophagi. All of the cases are decorated with writing and pictures. ~ 6 d 0 0 0 1 D1 ~ ~ 0 -1 604 D3 ~ ~ 0 -1 602 E writing pictures~ Though defaced, the picture once showed a scorpion-man surrounded by flames. The writing, tells that these cases contain the bodies of three lesser priests of the temple. ~ S #604 Hall of the Dead~ To either side of the main staircase is a statue of a crouching sphinx. There are several frescos decorating the walls. At the far end of the hall is a small raised platform. ~ 6 d 0 0 0 1 D1 ~ ~ 0 -1 608 D3 ~ ~ 0 -1 603 E frescos paintings wall walls~ They depict scenes of ritual burial, and the afterlife that awaits. Most of them have been purposefully defaced - sections of them are chipped away, so that what they might have been is impossible to tell. ~ E statue sphinx~ Both of the sphinx statues are carved from a transparent, golden stone. You would guess it is amber. ~ S #608 Hall of the Dead~ Here there is a small raised platform. You also see more frescos, similar to those in the other end of the hall. A thick layer of dust covers everything in the room. A worn wooden door leads south, and a heavy stone door goes west. ~ 6 d 0 0 0 1 D2 ~ door wooden worn south s~ 1 -1 608 D3 ~ stone door heavy west w~ 1 -1 610 E scrolls hidden~ The scrolls tell of the scorpion-man who lived at this temple. Send by Lord Ao to fight off the demons of Marduk Kurios. He was charged with keeping certain evil horrors under the earth, away from the world of men. In time, a religion grew around the scorpion-man, and his worshippers built the temple around him. ~ E chest chests furniture statues broken urns~ All of what was once stored here has degenerated into uselessness. ~ S #610 Burial chamber~ This room contains two ornate sarcophagi, resting on platforms on the floor. The rest of the room is carved with ornate detail. ~ 6 d 0 0 0 1 D1 ~ stone door heavy east e~ 1 -1 609 E sarcophagi floor platform~ Carved around the base of each is a warning not to disturb the peace of the high priest and priestess of He Who Keeps Us. The cases are very large and heavy. ~ S #611 Abatu's Chamber~ A well lit room, the chamber contains a table. ~ 6 d 0 0 0 1 D0 ~ ~ 0 -1 612 D3 ~ secret west w~ 3 -1 608 E hidden scrolls~ You find a scroll, and it reads: "They have slipped past the Malakaz. Learn what they know and report it to me." Tucked inside this scroll is a second, shorter note. It reads: "Get the map and send it to the Black One across the desert!" ~ E table~ The table is covered with a haphazard collection of stuff. ~ S #612 The gate~ This is a small stone cavern. At one end is a pool of water, at the other a shaft that disappears into the bowels of the earth. Scattered about the room are bones of some unknown creature. ~ 6 d 0 0 0 1 D2 ~ ~ 0 -1 611 E scattered bones bone~ The bones look like a combination of man and insect. The bones also appear to have been deliberately broken apart. ~ E shaft pit~ The pit looks bottomless. ~ S $~
