Dubstack is an active troll. Taking shots at Locke or Vryce are different, because they wont come here to feed off those comments.
I really don't think this is a fair statement. I find taking shots at trolls to be endearing and a perfectly amusing way to pass the time. It doesn't make them any more popular and sooner or later they learn that we make fun of them because we don't approve of their trolldom.
No one is forced to read or agree with anything anyone says. I didn't even read the Dubstack thread because I found my eyes bleeding every time I tried to do so. But even still, it serves as an excellent example of why only mature people capable of forming coherent thoughts should be trying to run muds–a fact that stands alone, having absolutely nothing to do with the person who serves to remind us of it.
Not sure if it's been said but I think I'll say it in any event.
I think Samson felt sorry for Dubstack. He came here looking for help and got ridiculed for the way he talked as well as his laissez-faire attitude about developing his mud and his role in learning how to program. I found myself feeling sorry for him. I'm sure Samson did too. I doubt anyone wants this to be a place where people just feel intimidated to post. Even people with bad vocabulary. I'm not so sure he was a troll in the classical sense. I think a lot of it was genuine ignorance or lack of education.
This makes it a totally different situation from med-thievia or Fury or Locke.
edit: Not throwing stones in glass houses here. He deserved a lot of that ridicule.
In case it's been missed, I'd like to point out that nobody's face has melted nor has the mudding world been obliterated just because this discussion has been allowed to continue.

So. Uh. This might be true, but it doesn't seem to be the MB administration's official POV, which is that Dubby was doing it on purpose.

Umm, you might want to take a look in the mirror though.

That makes you no better than the troll you're trying to defeat.
That's cool, just ignoring the actual substance of my post (the part where I disagree with you) and respond only to the part that was funny.
You're disagreeing with me, saying that trolling a troll is acceptable behavior because it 'teaches them a lesson'. Well, this isn't TMC. A PM from an admin for trolling goes a lot farther, than users attacking (how ever mild) on the forums. And acting this way makes you no better than they are.
Here's a novel concept. You guys don't like Dubstack and/or his MUD? Try this: Ignore him. Yeah, I know, scary thought. Just ignore him and you won't have to deal with it. All this bickering is pointless. Go find something else to spend time on. There's plenty of other posts you could be reading, yes?
Samson never locks the thread. The assumption is Davion does.

You realize that what you're saying is basically that from now on, it will be verboten to ever even refer to somebody who's trolling… right? Is that the policy we're coming to here?

I found it implied.
That was then, this is now. More recent comments don't agree with your theory.

Uh– no? Davion hasn't been locking the threads… it's Samson.
I really don't know what "this isn't TMC" is supposed to mean because I don't exactly have a long history of reading the forums there. I'm also far beyond worrying about whether I'm better than a troll or not.
That said, if I'm going to have to be on my tippy toes about "trolling," why not the troll in question? If the admins are going to make trolling trolls a forbidden thing to do, it means that they're not enforcing their own rules in the first place.

Technically since you are now an offender we may have to scratch our beard instead of invoking DavidMuhailey.

OMG you just trolled Scandum.
Who's more of a troll… the known troll or the known troll who trolls the known troll?

Basically TMC has hurt the feelings of some people here, and they weren't able to handle it, and so now "TMC" here is code for "wretched hive of scum and villainy."
TMC has rules in the form of a TOS that are actually adhered to. The moderation is minimal and limited to handling posts/people that actually violate a specific rule (mostly. there seems to be an unwritten rule about porn I broke  ).
Basically, if you're a liar, or a blowhard, or an ignoramus, you will suffer greatly at TMC.
So…pay attention to who wrings their hands over it. It'll tell you much about them.

Uh, you have noticed he stopped posting right? Has alot to do with what I said about PMs from admins being fairly effective ;).

If you're going to insult the person when bringing them up, then yes, it is verboten.
That makes you no better than the troll you're trying to defeat.
