the towns' people. In any case, they are both known for their oath to protect
the good of Bethaven.

carved in the likeness of Xavier.  This memorial was erected here to forever
memorialize Xavier's favorite spot in all the realms.  Whenever anyone
needed help, or just a focal point to get back to town, one could always
count on this brave warrior to be here to serve that purpose.  How Xavier
ever gained enough experience to achieve hero status, one will never know,
because he never left this spot.  There is a small plaque on the base of the

Temple of Bethaven~
Within this chamber stands the great and ancient Oracle.  He has stood in
this spot since long before the dawning of the Storm, and shall continue
into eternity.  Standing directly in the centre of the room is a huge altar
carved from one solid granite stone.  It's surface is carved with intricate
designs and symbols.  It is here that the citizens of Bethaven come to heal
and rest, and to share in the glory of eternity.  There is a door set into
the northern wall, with an inscription carved upon it.

Judgement Pass~
Judgement Pass stands just outside of the mighty Temple of Bethaven.  It
is here that the greatest warrior in the land stands her post, protecting
the citizens of Bethaven from the evil that dwells in every heart.  It is
here that judgement is dealt, swift and without mercy.  There is a set of
stairs leading upwards into the academy, where newcomers to the Storm can
learn to survive in the harsh and rugged land.

Fountain Plaza~
A large fountain stands in the middle of the plaza and offers a drink to
any passing traveller.  The water is clear and cool, and the fountain itself

Main Street~
The main street of Bethaven is a very wide cobblestone street. Adventurers
of all races and occupations can be seen walking up and down the street.
Common citizens of Bethaven can also be seen going about their daily

The crossing of Storm and Main is busy, but the throng of people is still
bearable.  Every now and then, a fight erupts between an arrogant mage and
an equally arrogant adventurer.  Sounds of pyrotechnics, hacking, slashing,
and screams of pain fill the air.  Few people take notice of these actions
because they have grown accustomed to open feuding in the streets.  The

The continual stream of people on Main is no different here.  Clerics

A throng of people enter Main Street from the south, and you can hear the
chattering and bartering of people at a market.  Your pace is slowed down by
the continual flow of people, and the odor coming from the tightly packed

coming from the market.  You think you can detect the smell of food and
various potion-making herbs, and possibly even the smell of pet animals. 
You push forward against the crowd, eager to see what the merchants have for

Market Square~
The Market Square is arguably the busiest intersection in all of
Bethaven.  Street vendors hawking illegal wares try to escape the notice of
cityguards.   Adventurers run from one store to another collecting supplies
for journeys outside the town, and common citizens meander down the streets.
The whole intersection is a swirling vortex of colors, odors, and sounds. 
Clutching your head, you attempt to find a quieter place in the city.

Crowds of people swarm out of the Market Square to the north, jostling
each other as they vie for a good position in the crowd.  A small child

be less hectic.

The corner of Trafar and Eternity is rather unspectacular.  The buildings

well-fitted by talented craftsmen.  Overall, the city of Bethaven appears to
be well taken care of, and the people seem to be wanting for little.  To the

together in harmony, however.  The occasional scuffle between rival clans

their clothes like a baby clings to its mother.

Tempest street is the beginning of one of the biggest residential areas

Merchant Street West~
Merchant Street continues to the east and west here.  To the north, a
very heavily guarded shop stands almost empty.  The sparkling jewels inside
indicate why.  Only the wealthiest members of the land, or adventurers
wishing to sell booty need bother with this store.  The common people of
Bethaven can only look and dream.

Merchant Street West~
This section of Merchant Street is especially busy.  To the north, the
scribe shop sells all manner of scrolls and magical wards.  Heading toward
the south are various members of the realm which are clutching vast sums of
money to their chests.  The iron bars in the window and the heavily armed
guards indicate that you are before the Bank of Bethaven.

Merchant Street East~
Many warrior types can be seen entering the store to the north.  Offering
magical devices for those who are unable to cast spells, the shop is a great
aid for the brauny adventurer.  A few loose cobblestones can be seen in the
heavily traveled Merchant Street.  Apparently, all of the traffic has caused
them to come loose.

Travelling along this busy street, you notice many people going in and
out of shops.  This is the most frequented street in central Bethaven, and

Intersection of Merchant and Tower~
A seedy looking store can be seen to the north, and Tower Street leads
off to the south of Merchant Street.  A fight erupts out on the street
between a vendor and a customer who believes they were cheated.  At the
approach of the cityguards, the vendor hastily grabs his products and flees.

Merchant Street East~
A store selling holy items can be seen to the north, and the end
of Merchant Street can be seen to the east.  The street is littered with
items dropped by careless shoppers, and the whole street has a worn
appearance to it.  Street cleaners can be seen trying to keep the streets
clean, but the sheer number of people are too many for the cleaner to keep
up with.

Tower Street~
Tower Street, aptly named for the twin lookout towers in the southern
city, contains the main city defenses.  Always fearful of attack from the
south, veteran soldiers of the Bethaven army are on constant duty here.  Any
person entering this area should have a very sound reason why they are doing
so.  The army has much more important things to deal with than nosey
adventurers.

Tower Street~
Army officers and regular enlisted men can be seen patrolling this area. 
Only the sharpest and best warriors may apply for enlistment in the Bethaven

A Bend in Tower Street~
Tower Street makes a sharp turn here, following the city walls.  These
walls provide the first line of the defense for the city, and are at least
ten meters high and two meters thick.  Stone from the distant mountains were
brought in by mule train to build the walls, and they are legendary in the
realm.

Tower Street~
The western tower can be seen to the north, and Tower Street stretches to

Corner of Tower Street~
Tower Street bends sharply here at the corner of the city walls.  Built
high enough to keep out any danger, the city walls are made of very thick
stone.  In times of war, defending champions of the city can rush up on the

From the edge of the street, you hear a woman's voice calling at you. 
She offers you companionship for the night in exchange for some money or

This part of Bethaven is rather quiet.  Since there aren't many shops
along this side of town, not too many folks seem in a rush here.  During a

A gang of young punks eyes you from a back alley.  Seeing your build and

it safe.  The institution of an executioner is helping to crack down on many
of the worst criminals, however.

A horrendous smell assaults your nostrils as you enter Zak's Magic
Emporium.  The counters in this shop are filled with potions and pills, and
in the back of the shop you can see a complete laboratory.  Something black
and viscous is bubbling in a distillation apparatus back there, and you
guess that this is where the hideous smell is coming from.

The walls of Desiray's Armoury are covered with pieces of armour for every
part of the body.  The styles are varied, as Desiray accepts trade-ins for
purchase of new armour.  The armour which she gets for trade is either
refurbished and sold, or it is melted down to use in new pieces of armour. 
The quality of the armour is rumored to be the best in the realm, but this
quality comes at a price.

As you enter this store, you are immediately astonished by the large
number and variety of weapons hanging on the walls.  More than that, though,
you are taken aback by the incredible quality and workmanship exhibited in
these weapons.  Jani, who you can see working the forge in the back of the
store, has impeccable taste in weapons.  She is willing to take weapons in
trade, but they must be of exceptional make, or she melts them down for raw
materials.

stealing a small trinket quickly flees your mind as you take one look at the
stocky bodyguards.

Top Floor of the Western Tower~
This is where the Guard Councillor of Bethaven makes his office and home.
A small portable wall has been made for him to separate his office from his
little apartment here in the tower.  He is almost always here because his
duty is his life.  He sleeps rarely, as you notice from the made-up bed
behind the portable wall.  The apartment (from what you can see) is kept
clean and tidy and his office is likewise to guard specifications.  A large
desk with papers all about it are stacked neatly in small containers marked
INBOX and OUTBOX.  An ink vial and quill also sit neatly upon the desk.

&cMabrook's apartment takes up almost half of the upper tower floor. It is
kept neat and tidy. A large bed is the centerpiece to the room, as well as
his own writing desk (which is closed). A dried wreath of flowers hangs above
the desk... perhaps a gift from mother. A map also hangs beside the writing
desk.

Graystar Imports~
This quaint little shop is neatly kept. Shelves lined with bottled and
jarred goods show no sign of dust or disrepair, and are clearly labelled
to make the storekeeper's job easier. The floor here is clean, and new. The
floorboards, as you can see were recently put in, and varnished to a shine.
The counter along the west wall is stained a dark brown and is made of new
wood. A red and white marble countertop accents it nicely. A slight smell
of pine wafts throughout the shop due to the potpourri cheesecloths that
someone has strategically placed about. There is a small sign here for all
to read.

When you enter, the smell of spiced meats assails your senses.  All around
you, you can see nicely-sized cuts of meats from all over the continent.  A
few shelves line the southern wall of the store, while to the east, there is
a small back room where you can see more meats hanging fresh on their
meathooks.  The counter along the west wall is made of stainless steel to
prevent bacterias from passing around when Gowron cuts his fine meat into
orders.

Pet Shop~
As you enter this store, various animal smells come to your attention. 
The little animals in their tiny cages perk up as you walk by them, and the
pathetic begging looks in their eyes tug at your heart.  Enough food and
water is provided, and their cages are kept clean, but you feel sorry for
them nonetheless.  A hawk screeches at you in defiance, and a little kitten
mews for attention.  The bored-looking storekeeper watches these
interactions with disinterest.

Upon entering this rather small room, the first thing you notice is a
large brutish man standing in what looks to be a box with some arcane

directions.  Occasionaly you see a fellow adventurer leaving one of these
other rooms with a smile on their faces, and a new item strapped to their
backpack.

item.

&PYou have entered an antechamber that has been magically sealed.  Runes
surround you on pillars and walls.  Each possessing binding forces, for
this room holds magical artifacts donated by adventurers exploring The
Storm.  Some magical artifacts have minds of their own and the city of
Bethaven will not permit those artifacts to be unattended.  Take what you
wish, but be warned that magic is extremely powerful and most unpredictable.

The Morgue~
Somehow in your travels you have managed to prove your own mortality to
yourself, and those around you, by dying.  Fortunately, the gods were
watching you and took pity upon you, granting you a new body.  If you are
under level 20, your corpse should be here, if you are over level 20, you
must go back to where you died to get it.  You can get the items from your
corpse by typing GET ALL CORPSE.  If you wish to go to your temple, enter
one of the portals, either ravenwood or bethaven depending on which town is
yours.  Simply type enter bethaven or enter ravenwood to proceed.  Keep in
mind, if you are not evil aligned, and go to Ravenwood, you will be jailed
if you run into one of the guards.

QuestMaster's Quarters~
The only lumination in this room comes from a single candle burning
brightly upon a small table.  The sweet smell of incense pleasantly fills
the air, and the low strains of music seem to surround you.  Almost obscured
by the shadows is a wizened old man.  He turns to look at you as you enter.

Entrance to the Grand Arena~
You are standing in a small room.  The room is bare of any furnishings to
prevent any form of combustion.  Within the room is a portal which leads to
the Grand Arena.  It is safe to stand within the spectators area, but is
quite dangerous within the gladiator wings.
