can just make out some kind of stonework. to the north the trail
slopes down towards the ocean. the view to the east is still the
unbroken ocean as far as you can see, and to the west the forest

outside the archway~
the trail slopes down to the north and to the south you see a huge
white marble archway crosses over the trail, the arch begins at the
edge of the cliff to the east and ends in the trees to the west.
you could probably hack your way around it, but since there is no gate
that seems like a silly idea. huge letter have been carved into both
sides of the archway, and for some reason you feel compelled to read them.
to read them type 'look carvings'.

the marble archway is covered with carved letters in every possible
toungue, in at least one language that you can read they say:
Welcome to the gateway to Bastion. All those with pure hearts who
seek knowledge and wisdom way enter here and be welcome. Our home
is open to you. We can provide you with anything you need all you must
do in exchange is leave some new scrap of knowledge or lore. BUT if your
heart is filled with evil our doors are closed to you and to continue
into our domian will surely mean you doom. Head this warning well.

inside the archway~
now that you are inside the archway you begin to appreciate the
craftsmanship that it too to build it, even if you don't understand
WHY anyone would build it here. the entire arch appears to be built
from a single huge piece of white marble, and intricate carvings cover
every inch of the inside of the arch. to the north you see the trail,
and to the south you can make out a small clearing and to ENORMOUS
statues.

in the clearing~
you have come completely through the archway and are now in a
small clearing. on each side of the clearing stands one of the biggest
statues you have ever seen. the two statues are identical and are
startilingly lifelike, almost too lifelike. they appear to be staring
into your soul. you certainly wouldn't want one much less both of them
to be mad at you.
