Playground Plus Makefile information
 ------------------------------------

PG+ uses a different makefile setup to PG96. The major differences are
that its better written and documented, hides compilation junk and comes
with an automatic host configurator script.

First thing is that the Makefile is hidden in configure/Makefile.template.
This is, as you probably guessed, the template for all makefiles. So if
you need to edit the makefile then edit this one and you won't loose all
your work if you do "make newos" again. 

There are several options in the Makefile which are detailed both in the
Makefile itself and here:

 DEBUGGING
 ---------

By defining bugging you will make the talker (and other files) compile
with debugging symbols. This increases the binaries slightly and is handy
when you want to debug a core file. If memory/disk space is at a premuim
then you can turn this off.

 USE_LIBG
 --------

By defining this you will include the libg.a static C library which can
greatly aid in debugging your code IF AND ONLY IF "DEBUGGING" has been
defined. However this *substantially* increases the size of the binaries
and should not be used in your live talker. If you do then you will get a
visual warning on boot-up and in the 'version' command.

 VERBOSE_MODE
 ------------

By defining this the talker will log a larger amount of additional
information IF AND ONLY IF "DEBUGGING" is enabled. There seems to be no
reason why you'd want to do this if you weren't debugging hence the way it
is set up.

 STRIP
 -----

By defining strip the Makefile will run the UNIX "strip" command on the
executables after compiliation to remove unecessary symbols. This will
only happen if "DEBUGGING" is undefined otherwise it would be a waste of
time! You should only disable this if your box doesn't allow you
access to the "strip" command.

 Pedantic flag
 -------------

Playground+ will compile with the -pedantic flag. However it will generate
a large number of warnings like so on Linux boxes:

  /usr/include/socketbits.h:150: warning: ANSI C forbids zero-size array
  `__cmsg_data'

You shouldn't get this at all because -ansi isn't in the Makefile but
-pedantic seems to check somethings which are under -ansi.

Therefore the default Playground+ Makefiles *don't* have the -pedantic
flag set. If you decide to use it then you will have no problems either in
compilation or running - just you'll get a few errors.

 And finally remember!!
 ----------------------

It is NOT recommended to run a talker in DEBUGGING mode with USE_LIBG
defined! This is due to the increased binary size. You will be given a
visual warning upon boot up and the "version" command within the talker
will be different to remind you of this.

If you are on a paying server do not be suprised if they wish to charge
you more for running a talker with the latter options enabled.
