Looking up you can see there is no chance of climbing the sheer faces of the cliffs and decide the only direction you can continue is East or West. The branch has a &Ytrapdoor&G in it which leads directly down to the base of the tree. To the East you see the most amazing walkway, carved directly into the tree. Looking around you see many chipped and used weapons along with a few sets of very worn and dented armor. A heavy scent lingers through the damp air. You try to peer farther in but you just can't penetrate the darkness. As you move around you can hear an occasional crunch as you step on &wsomething&O dry and brittle. To the West you see some light filtering through the branches. The only light you have to rely on is the one you carry with you, and even that only sheds enough light to keep you from tripping over yourself. Pointing your light to the ground you can make out bits of fur in the trodden dirt. The walls are cold and damp. There are small holes lining the ceiling. The walls are covered with slick oil and patches of dried pitch cover the ground. ~ 0 12 0 Rd 0 E gate~ The thick reinforced Gate leads out to the Pass between the Cliffs. ~ E portcullis~ This heavy portcullis is leading into the Fortress Courtyard. The smell of food and wine fills the air. All around people are drinking and having a good time. There is not much space in here, the Tavern is filled with people. A number of stalls contain the Royal carriage horses. Along the stall walls there is a number of saddles, with the associated harnesses, reins and bridles. Flies buzz about, making the horses flick with their tails. It's somewhat dark here, the weeds grow thick on the ground. Bits of trash are scattered about here. They are only separated by the narrow neglected alley. Not much light makes it's way over the high walls, leaving the alley dark and cool. The nobles cannot be too cautious in these trying times, and have taken every measure to insure their own safety. Taking a quick look around you see a very used and slightly cluttered desk, a small bookshelf, and a chair. The walls are filled with plaques of accomplishments. One of these is a plaque of solid gold. Paintings of nobles decorate parts of the walls. Occasionally you see a servant hurry past, to keep it's masters bidding. West you see the gate leading out to the Bailey, and at the end of the long hallway to the East, you can make out a huge door. Without a light you wouldnt be able to see the small couch or table with refreshments. A person could sit here and watch people in the hallway without being noticed. Common looking cloaks are hung on worn pine racks along the back of the room, while more elegant ones hang on a lavishly decorated rack up front. There are two corridors here, one North where you hear people hustle around, and one to the South where you hear soft murmurs of prayers. The walls are basically empty, except from a torch here and there. There is no carpet decorating the floor or any paintings on the wall. Not even noticing you, they manage to avoid pushing you over as they make haste from one end to another. Occasionally shouting out a new order or request. Off to either side of you there are small alcoves leading to what you suspect are the rooms that are allotted to the servants to sleep in. There are a number of cots set up against the walls with a chest at the foot of each one. A small torch burns fitfully on the wall barely providing enough illumination to see by. A mirror decorates one of the walls and a large pine closet is set in a corner. An oil lamp on a table, placed in the center of the room, provides the only light here. Torches mounted to either side illuminate it. Looking South you see a solid wooden door banded in iron. Shelves line the walls on all sides and are filled with everyday items such as beverages, food and sacks. The door is decorated with various religious symbols, and you hear spiritual aria playing from within. Pews line both sides of a narrow aisle, centered on a tabernacle to the East. A mural adorns the Northern wall, showing a holy man with a white aura. Dozens of candles are lit to provide enough light to see the colorful tapestries on the North and Eastern wall. It's painted in dark colors, and a red velvet cloth covers the openings. An offering &Ytray&c is placed upon a stone pedestal next to the booth. A couple of rows of pews are set here, and more are lined to the West. The stone walls are filled with magical runes etched into the hard granite by a powerful mage. A cool draft from below whistles through the many cracks in the wall. The glowing runes are so strong they create an imaginary crescendo of warning. Torches on either side of a door located on the South wall light up the words, 'Disturb at your own peril!' The sound of boiling liquid percolating through glass tubes, and a smell of sulfur powder permeate the air. Shelves lined up with different vials, urns, sacks and bottles dominate the West wall. The workshop continues to the South. Some items show signs of use while many are covered in layers of dust and cobwebs. A red candle burns at each point, and strange glyphs are drawn on the walls. Electric charges spark in the air and the floor wavers in the center of the pentagram. Some of the glyphs look different from the others. There is a small cot in the corner with a rumpled blanket tossed on it. A worn desk with a tattered chair is located in the center of the East wall. The walls are lined with a number of shelves that contain books, scrolls and parchments. They look as if they've all been well taken care of. A few other items are located on the shelves and some may even be magical. A variety of staves and wands are carefully placed upon a table, some of them glowing with energy. ~ 0 8 0 Rd 0 D3 Looking closely, you notice something strange about the western wall. ~ wall~ 103 9535 9580 S #9583 Hallway of the Keep~ &pYou see a number of pictures lining the wall, many depict major battles that Lord Tyrus took part in. Each has a date listed below it and they proceed in chronological order. The last dated picture is a strange one though, it depicts this very Fortress straddling the pass. Over the Fortress a black sky reigns and lightning bolts burst forth to strike some of the towers. Among the black clouds some very vague shapes can be seen as if the painter wanted the viewer to almost see a mind behind the storm. Under the painting the plaque showing the dates has the starting date, but no finishing date. All carrying different weapons from a lance to a two-edged ax. Huge urns are placed between each figurine, filled with glorious flowers of all colors. A heavy wrought iron pull is attached to each of the massive doors. Many chains extend from the ceiling, each having a lavish candelabra attached to the end. Far across the ballroom to the East you can see Lord Tyrus's throne. It is very warm in here next to the oven. Copper pots hang from the walls, and shelves with spices are lined up on the South wall. Wine racks contain the finest wines of the land. Under each banner is a small plaque describing from which clan/enemy the banner was taken, along with when and where the battle occurred. Several display cases show off prized possessions of vanquished foes. A series of &Ypaintings &Ccatch your attention. ~ 0 8 0 Rd 0 E paintings~ This series of paintings tells a story. You see Lord Tyrus in battle, and a mage coming to aid him. The mage is giving Lord Tyrus a glowing glow, which he combines with his sword. The united items glows with power, and flames shoot out from it. Many red velvet covered chairs are lined up along the table. Extravagant pewter dinner service is set out before every seat. Silver candle holders are evenly spaced along the length of the table. The red velvet carpet covers the steps East up to the throne. The floor is pure marble pieces, polished to shine along with the light. The ballroom extends to the West, while velvet curtains lead North into the banquet hall. It is illuminated by a small glowing light the hovers in mid-air and resist all attempts to budge. On the pedestal an unrolled parchment rests under glass. Taking a look at the parchment you can see it's the original deed to the land upon which this fortress is situated on. A great throne is set on top of the stairs, with a smaller looking throne next to it. Heavy velvet drapes arch the wall behind the thrones. Large golden candle holders are placed to the sides of the thrones. All around you trees thrust up into the air reaching for the sun. You can hear the sounds of many of the local wildlife rooting around in the trees looking for lunch or maybe looking for each other to make the other lunch.
