I'd previously (<A HREF="http://www.kanga.nu/~petidomo/lists/mud-dev/1998Q3/msg00698.html">http://www.kanga.nu/~petidomo/lists/mud-dev/1998Q3/msg00698.html</A>) suggested using a protocol described by an XML DTD, but it could even use MCP 2.1 (<A HREF="http://www.moo.mud.org/mcp/">http://www.moo.mud.org/mcp/</A>). Tools exist to work with both of these already. My plans are to look at MUX from HTTP-NG and see if that would suit my needs for a transport layer and then to send XML specified messages on top of that. I do know the author of a Mac based MUD client that, in development versions, currently uses XML for internal things, with plans for wider use of XML in the future. > Also with the above system you could in theory defer >interpretation until the tokens reach a client (perhaps there could be a >light client for people that NEED to telnet in). Or a proxy server that does a transformation from XML to plain text, much like DSSSL tools do for SGML and so on. I'm working with someone on getting a basic plan for the structure of a system like this laid out and making sure it is extensible (XML namespaces). Hopefully more soon. - Bruce </PRE> <!--X-Body-of-Message-End--> <!--X-MsgBody-End--> <!--X-Follow-Ups--> <HR> <!--X-Follow-Ups-End--> <!--X-References--> <!--X-References-End--> <!--X-BotPNI--> <UL> <LI>Prev by Date: <STRONG><A HREF="msg00332.html">[MUD-Dev] Re: Bruce Sterling on Virtual Community goals</A></STRONG> </LI> <LI>Next by Date: <STRONG><A HREF="msg00334.html">[MUD-Dev] Re: Trusting the Client (Re: Laws of Online World D esign)</A></STRONG> </LI> <LI>Prev by thread: <STRONG><A HREF="msg00312.html">[MUD-Dev] Re: Recursive look</A></STRONG> </LI> <LI>Next by thread: <STRONG><A HREF="msg00336.html">[MUD-Dev] Re: Recursive look</A></STRONG> </LI> <LI>Index(es): <UL> <LI><A HREF="index.html#00333"><STRONG>Date</STRONG></A></LI> <LI><A HREF="thread.html#00333"><STRONG>Thread</STRONG></A></LI> </UL> </LI> </UL> <!--X-BotPNI-End--> <!--X-User-Footer--> <!--X-User-Footer-End--> <ul><li>Thread context: <BLOCKQUOTE><UL> <LI><STRONG>[MUD-Dev] Re: evil - good realism</STRONG>, <EM>(continued)</EM> <ul compact> <LI><strong><A NAME="00346" HREF="msg00346.html">[MUD-Dev] Re: evil - good realism</A></strong>, quzah [sotfhome] <a href="mailto:quzah#softhome,net">quzah#softhome,net</a>, Thu 22 Oct 1998, 09:12 GMT </LI> <LI><strong><A NAME="00458" HREF="msg00458.html">[MUD-Dev] Re: evil - good realism</A></strong>, quzah [sotfhome] <a href="mailto:quzah#softhome,net">quzah#softhome,net</a>, Sat 24 Oct 1998, 11:40 GMT </LI> </ul> </LI> <LI><strong><A NAME="00308" HREF="msg00308.html">[MUD-Dev] Re: Recursive look</A></strong>, Michael.Willey <a href="mailto:Michael.Willey#abnamro,com">Michael.Willey#abnamro,com</a>, Wed 21 Oct 1998, 17:47 GMT <UL> <li><Possible follow-up(s)><br> <LI><strong><A NAME="00312" HREF="msg00312.html">[MUD-Dev] Re: Recursive look</A></strong>, Koster, Raph <a href="mailto:rkoster#origin,ea.com">rkoster#origin,ea.com</a>, Wed 21 Oct 1998, 18:16 GMT </LI> <LI><strong><A NAME="00333" HREF="msg00333.html">[MUD-Dev] Re: Recursive look</A></strong>, Bruce Mitchener, Jr. <a href="mailto:bruce#puremagic,com">bruce#puremagic,com</a>, Thu 22 Oct 1998, 02:01 GMT </LI> <LI><strong><A NAME="00336" HREF="msg00336.html">[MUD-Dev] Re: Recursive look</A></strong>, Chris Gray <a href="mailto:cg#ami-cg,GraySage.Edmonton.AB.CA">cg#ami-cg,GraySage.Edmonton.AB.CA</a>, Thu 22 Oct 1998, 04:17 GMT </LI> <LI><strong><A NAME="00337" HREF="msg00337.html">[MUD-Dev] Re: Recursive look</A></strong>, Chris Gray <a href="mailto:cg#ami-cg,GraySage.Edmonton.AB.CA">cg#ami-cg,GraySage.Edmonton.AB.CA</a>, Thu 22 Oct 1998, 04:25 GMT </LI> <LI><strong><A NAME="00352" HREF="msg00352.html">[MUD-Dev] Re: Recursive look</A></strong>, Michael.Willey <a href="mailto:Michael.Willey#abnamro,com">Michael.Willey#abnamro,com</a>, Thu 22 Oct 1998, 14:40 GMT </LI> </UL> </LI> <LI><strong><A NAME="00306" HREF="msg00306.html">[MUD-Dev] evil - good realism</A></strong>, Vladimir Prelovac <a href="mailto:tomcat#galeb,etf.bg.ac.yu">tomcat#galeb,etf.bg.ac.yu</a>, Wed 21 Oct 1998, 17:38 GMT </LI> </UL></BLOCKQUOTE> </ul> <hr> <center> [ <a href="../">Other Periods</a> | <a href="../../">Other mailing lists</a> | <a href="/search.php3">Search</a> ] </center> <hr> </body> </html>
