<PRE>
&gt; &gt;? Should the player just go
&gt; &gt;'oh well' about the loss of a character she had played for six months,
&gt; &gt;just because she happened to run into someone who could come up with an
&gt; &gt;excuse to off her?

I'm not disagreeing with this, but then again, I'm not really interested
in playing characters for 6 monthes. For starters, I rarely have the
time for it (unless by 'playing' you mean log on every so often to
say hi to your friends); secondly, I've yet to find a mud that actually
keeps me entertained this long.

&gt; This is the REAL issue... roleplay is cooperative and good roleplayers
&gt; cooperate with each other in their story development. They understand that
&gt; the otyher player should be maste of their own story and they intrude ON
&gt; that story only with great care and sensativity.

Well, before this gets too touchy-feely, I should say - yes, I agree.
There is no place for malice, vengence, or any other negative emotions
at the player level. It's a game, and if it ever ceases to be fun (I
don't consider harboring malice fun) then you should just stop playing.
At the *character* level, however, there are a thousand and one reasons
why your character would bear malice towards another.

&gt; &gt;&gt;Now, I'm a human being. Human beings are fond of conflict. In most
&gt; &gt;&gt;cases, we consider situations where everything is hunky-dory to be downright
&gt; &gt;&gt;boring. We like challanges, which is why we do pretty much everything we
&gt; &gt;&gt;do, including playing games.
&gt;
&gt; This is a silly point. Im a human being and Im NOT fond of physical
&gt; conflict nad personal danger. Nor, i think REALLY is the writer of this. i

Rereading what I wrote up there, which you've kindly quoted, you'll see
that what I said was 'fond of conflict' - YOU inserted the words 'physical'
and 'personal danger'. Secondly, who are you to tell me what I enjoy
as entertainment?

&gt; am fond of CHALLENGES... challenges I have a good chance of overcoming.

Which was my point. These challanges may or may not include violence
or even competition. I like violence and competition; probably because
mother nature imbued me with these desires and there's no real productive
way to actually act these things out in modern life (ie, no need to hunt
for my food or anything).

&gt; But if the author of the original paragraph is REALLY fond of pain and
&gt; physical conflict, i sugegst he get himself arrested forthwith.,.. he's
&gt; gonna LOVE the society inside your average state prison.

Now this is just getting ridiculous. All I'm trying to do here is show
you why certain types of games are fun; not only do you not seem interested
in understanding that, but you don't even seem to have read my post very
closely. If you're not interested in learning the information I'm
trying to share, that's fine - I'll stop bothering, because most everyone
here already does understand what I'm talking about.

&gt; Frankly, Im beginning to believe soem of these posts are trolls and im
&gt; gonna start asking 'is this WORTH a response' before I answer to save you
&gt; all the grief.

If you don't understand the discussion, don't wish to understand it, and
have nothing to add - then I would agree, don't bother responding.
(Please note I am not trying to put you down at all. I think you've made
a lot of good posts to this list, which is why I'm somewhat confused as
to why you're so close-minded to certain ideas.)
