<PRE>
For those of us using a disk-based system, has anyone looked at Shore
as a database candidate?

I've been skimming over some of the web pages at
<A  HREF="http://www.cs.wisc.edu/shore/">http://www.cs.wisc.edu/shore/</A>
and might bear some more looking into. It seems the development team
has layered the implementation in such a fashion as to allow a client
to mount a front end onto the storage manager as desired (giving a
handy interface to the nuts-and-bolts of the I/O) while allowing the
client to deal with the objects externally (to the storage manager,
anyway) however it pleases. It's got a CORBA feel to it, as well as
an interesting property of allowing the database to be accessed
similarly to a file system as well (reflective of ClearCase version
control, for those who've worked with it).
