> > > Or make shish kebabbing newbies a very messy, predictable and
> > > unrewarding event?
> >
> > Its difficult to make in unrewarding when it continues to create such
> > a large and often emotive effect on the victim. "Hey! You killed me
> > you arsehole! I'm gonna get you!" Is one hell of a reward to try and
> > combat via code.

When I first played a mud and got pked, it was a complete shock. But I
didn't complain. I did ask for my equipment back... I think coz of that,
the pkers eventually took a shine on me and starting helping me out
instead. Could be just dumb luck of course and the pkers felt a sudden
twang of guilt but in my experience, anyone who kicks up a fuss will just
get pked again for being so pompous.

> Player death is permanent for your body on my mud. If you kill someone,
> their link is severed and their body destroyed - they have to log back on
> and create a new body (with a new name, etc).

Do you really have to sever their link? Could send them off to
counselling instead. ;) (Okay, okay, I should take it more serious!)

> The outcome? If you manage to kill them, you loose (humanity), they vanish,
> and you quite probably end up with an anonymous assassin on your tail. This
> will not discourage everyone, but I hope it will make pointless killing rarer.

An anonymous newbie assassin. Oh no! :P Pkers in general are on a
permanent alert for being pked themselves. It's part of the rush. As for
humanity points, I need to see the effects. <shrug>

Alternatively, pkers could attract the bad bunch of npcs who like to hang
around this kinda scum. More respectable characters (pcs and npc
shopkeepers and their ilk) would see this gang and refuse to interact. If
the pker tries to pk, the rest of the gang will lynch the pker for
invading their turf without their permission. Er. Or something like
that.
