> I'd also add the caveat that the failure needs to be small enough to allow
> getting back onto your feet without much trouble. CR's in Diku derivatives
> are a good example; if you wander into an area you can't handle, and you
> get killed trying to get out because you're lost, not only are you unable
> to easily find your corpse -- you're in no condition to even go looking for
> it. As a result, I tend to consider helping people with CRs to be among the
> noblest things you can do, provided you don't request some outrageous
> payment. ;)

Which brings up one of Ancient Anguish's problems... It bans all
pkilling except against someone whom you catch stealing from you,
attacking an NPC you are in the room actively fighting, who already
attacked you illegally, or who is bountied for a law violation. Of
course, this appeals to people who enjoy harassing and annoying others,
looting their corpses, or stealing kills. That results in a player base
where no one in their right mind would even think about announcing
they'd just died. You can ask people in your guild privately to get your
things, but you can't even ask on the guild line for fear someone will
log in another character and steal it, or even take it with a char from
your own guild. I've never seen a more backstabbing player base. It's
been my experience that the only way to receive any loyalty or common
courtesy there is to become a rogue (thief) and join the ravens
(thief-only guild) where the number of common enemies tends to override
self-interest.
