For example, I can't envision how you'd introduce something like wolves into the scenario and keep it reasonably realistic. In any case, I've been trying a cross between this and actually having your mobs interact with each other. Calculate the estimated populations for each group dynamically, every week or so. The game would dedicate a second or so in determining the current population and recalculating it after taking into consideration reproduction and starvation. If the players kill them off before that, oh well >:) If you make the mobs worth the kill, they might be hesitant to go out and rampantly kill every wolf, orc, and cat in sight. My only problem is that I've yet to devise a system which will maintain itself indefinitely. I'm sure its possible, after extensive number-fudging. _______________________________________________ MUD-Dev maillist - MUD-Dev#kanga,nu <A HREF="http://www.kanga.nu/lists/listinfo/mud-dev">http://www.kanga.nu/lists/listinfo/mud-dev</A> </PRE> <!--X-Body-of-Message-End--> <!--X-MsgBody-End--> <!--X-Follow-Ups--> <HR> <!--X-Follow-Ups-End--> <!--X-References--> <UL><LI><STRONG>References</STRONG>: <UL> <LI><STRONG><A NAME="00793" HREF="msg00793.html">Re: [MUD-Dev] Game Economies</A></STRONG> <UL><LI><EM>From:</EM> Jp Calderone <exarkun#flashmail,com></LI></UL></LI> <LI><STRONG><A NAME="00785" HREF="msg00785.html">RE: [MUD-Dev] Game Economies</A></STRONG> <UL><LI><EM>From:</EM> Adam Wiggins <adam#angel,com></LI></UL></LI> <LI><STRONG><A NAME="00792" HREF="msg00792.html">RE: [MUD-Dev] Game Economies</A></STRONG> <UL><LI><EM>From:</EM> Albert <thecheezeman#earthlink,net></LI></UL></LI> <LI><STRONG><A NAME="00821" HREF="msg00821.html">Re: [MUD-Dev] Game Economies</A></STRONG> <UL><LI><EM>From:</EM> Laurel Fan <lf25+@andrew.cmu.edu></LI></UL></LI> </UL></LI></UL> <!--X-References-End--> <!--X-BotPNI--> <UL> <LI>Prev by Date: <STRONG><A HREF="msg00824.html">Re: [MUD-Dev] Game Economies</A></STRONG> </LI> <LI>Next by Date: <STRONG><A HREF="msg00826.html">[MUD-Dev] Properties of computer languages</A></STRONG> </LI> <LI>Prev by thread: <STRONG><A HREF="msg00821.html">Re: [MUD-Dev] Game Economies</A></STRONG> </LI> <LI>Next by thread: <STRONG><A HREF="msg00702.html">RE: [MUD-Dev] Game Economies</A></STRONG> </LI> <LI>Index(es): <UL> <LI><A HREF="index.html#00825"><STRONG>Date</STRONG></A></LI> <LI><A HREF="thread.html#00825"><STRONG>Thread</STRONG></A></LI> </UL> </LI> </UL> <!--X-BotPNI-End--> <!--X-User-Footer--> <!--X-User-Footer-End--> <ul><li>Thread context: <BLOCKQUOTE><UL> <LI><STRONG>RE: [MUD-Dev] Game Economies</STRONG>, <EM>(continued)</EM> <ul compact> <ul compact> <ul compact> <ul compact> <ul compact> <LI><strong><A NAME="00787" HREF="msg00787.html">RE: [MUD-Dev] Game Economies</A></strong>, Katrina McClelan <a href="mailto:kitkat#marcus,pants.nu">kitkat#marcus,pants.nu</a>, Sat 12 Jun 1999, 01:35 GMT <UL> <LI><strong><A NAME="00792" HREF="msg00792.html">RE: [MUD-Dev] Game Economies</A></strong>, Albert <a href="mailto:thecheezeman#earthlink,net">thecheezeman#earthlink,net</a>, Sat 12 Jun 1999, 20:29 GMT <UL> <LI><strong><A NAME="00793" HREF="msg00793.html">Re: [MUD-Dev] Game Economies</A></strong>, Jp Calderone <a href="mailto:exarkun#flashmail,com">exarkun#flashmail,com</a>, Sun 13 Jun 1999, 02:44 GMT <UL> <LI><strong><A NAME="00821" HREF="msg00821.html">Re: [MUD-Dev] Game Economies</A></strong>, Laurel Fan <a href="mailto:lf25+@andrew.cmu.edu">lf25+@andrew.cmu.edu</a>, Tue 15 Jun 1999, 18:02 GMT <UL> <LI><strong><A NAME="00825" HREF="msg00825.html">Re: [MUD-Dev] Game Economies</A></strong>, Albert <a href="mailto:thecheezeman#earthlink,net">thecheezeman#earthlink,net</a>, Wed 16 Jun 1999, 04:32 GMT </LI> </UL> </LI> </UL> </LI> </UL> </LI> </UL> </LI> </ul> </ul> </ul> </ul> <LI><strong><A NAME="00702" HREF="msg00702.html">RE: [MUD-Dev] Game Economies</A></strong>, Koster, Raph <a href="mailto:rkoster#origin,ea.com">rkoster#origin,ea.com</a>, Thu 10 Jun 1999, 16:14 GMT <UL> <LI><strong><A NAME="00829" HREF="msg00829.html">[MUD-Dev] Different approaches?</A></strong>, Dani Dumitrescu <a href="mailto:recuperating#home,com">recuperating#home,com</a>, Thu 17 Jun 1999, 15:38 GMT </LI> </UL> </LI> <LI><strong><A NAME="00704" HREF="msg00704.html">RE: [MUD-Dev] Game Economies</A></strong>, Koster, Raph <a href="mailto:rkoster#origin,ea.com">rkoster#origin,ea.com</a>, Thu 10 Jun 1999, 17:28 GMT </LI> <LI><strong><A NAME="00718" HREF="msg00718.html">Re: [MUD-Dev] Game Economies</A></strong>, Greg Munt <a href="mailto:greg#uni-corn,demon.co.uk">greg#uni-corn,demon.co.uk</a>, Thu 10 Jun 1999, 22:18 GMT </LI> </ul> </LI> </UL></BLOCKQUOTE> </ul> <hr> <center> [ <a href="../">Other Periods</a> | <a href="../../">Other mailing lists</a> | <a href="/search.php3">Search</a> ] </center> <hr> </body> </html>
